Desk clutter

Clutter

This is part of my office; it has become too cluttered. Technically speaking, everything here has a purpose of some sort it just feels as if there is too much around in this area. Also, I just got back from my run and decided to run through my email and I’m realizing maybe I don’t like my chair either. It’s one of these highback cheapo’s from Office Max. It forces me to slouch because when I sit up properly I feel awkward. I’m now just noticing this for some reason. Before the howls of the aeron come to play. It’s ugly and uncomfortable to me, i’m not exactly sure why it’s gotten the high ratings it has. I was thinking about a bankers chair with a cushion. Cherry wood most likely but I’m scared the wood back may eventually get to me after being in it for an hour or two. Bankers sit all day long so it can’t be that bad.

Beyond that here’s what i’m thinking so far. We move the speakers onto the wall and maybe the 30 inch can go on the wall too. Maybe that’ll be too far, maybe not. I’m not exactly sure where I should put that microphone, but the coaster is in a good place.. I am also thinking about moving that mini plant next to the coaster up to the right by the mini cacti but I suspect it won’t get enough sun during the day.

I need to get this place in tip-top because the upcoming weeks are going to be busy and I’m just not feeling at peace with this. Not to mention the wires (not shown) but they are in a complete mess. Anyone have any suggestions I’d really be interested in hearing them, email. This is still wordpress btw :-) Quills is pretty far along at this point i’d say some 90% complete but it’s always that damn 10%.

Bury WordPress

I’ve been using WordPress for quite sometime, and in that time i’ve updated WordPress probably close to 8 or 9 times due to security issues. It’s getting old; and every single time I look at the source I can’t imagine i’m running such an application to espouse my ideas of better content management but I continue using it because of laziness. It just makes no sense really and this last security hole is just such an unbelievable gaff that I can’t continue to use WordPress. That said I’ve started to adapt Plone with Quills as my new blogging platform of choice. This so far has involved getting my modified theme on-top of it. I was in the middle of writing for an upcoming conference; between that, scanning in these family photos, photo projects and generally keeping my self distracted by skirts, it’s coming along. There is a shoddy but viewable preview here on 8080 it almost looks close but there is a lot to do. Some of this functionality will probably not make it back into Quills, well maybe some of it like the external links and one off pages but Quills is really template specific so all of this would have to be one off for your specific theme. If you are interested how I did this I’ll probably write something but it involves modifying the quills views/templates and changing of css and a terminal page of code at the most. The actual administration interface is still Plone like. Hopefully this is one of the last few blog posts from me in WordPress though. It’s just unacceptable; the sad part is that everyone thinks that upgrade after upgrade after upgrade is normal.

Other than that I’m thinking I need another vacation.. One month in Barbados was enough to make me want more; these long nights heh.. Aight.. lemme get on this netflix queue and hit the beach tomorrow.
