Something is wrong with my iPhone, or rather AT&T's network.. I can't receive phone calls. So subsequently AT&T is looking into it. This is comical because there are 5 cell towers on the top of this brownstone. This is no exaggeration. Go one floor up and I can stand right next to at least 5 towers. What's even more comical is that I'm not a big phone person. I like face to face conversation and usually only talk on the phone with close friends/family so when I need the phone to operate as a phone it's of critical importance to me. I have full coverage and strong signal strength. I can make calls and even send sms/text messages; but not receive phone calls. So technically I'm not using a phone right now.
Unfortunately, if you call me it still goes straight to voicemail. I apologize for some of the calls I have missed. They promise me the problem will be remedied by tomorrow or they'll send me a new iPhone "because it would obviously be a device problem". In the meantime txt/email and I will call back.
It's a sad set of circumstance that as we near 2010 the idea of receiving and making calls is still as primal as when the idea of the phone was invented. AT&T needs to fix their network. Dropped calls, random static, people telling me they call and the phone rings to voicemail yet i'm down the hall and my phone isn't ringing. Then people think i'm ignoring them or simply not talking to them and weeks later after they've done whatever or acted like an asshole it comes up that I didn't get the message, voicemail, phonecall and it's an awkward situation for everyone. Then there's the erroneous charges. If I travel somewhere even remotely out of the United States my phone seems to roam into entirely different countries and continents. Through it all, I have accepted it all with little noise and I have to say. Customer service that I just received was excellent and usually not the norm for AT&T so I'm glad to see change there. They remind me i'm a "loyal, longtime customer".
All of this however.. it just has to be fixed otherwise I have to get rid of this iPhone. As a device I love it; but if it's not going to work as a phone then I need to get rid of it.
So, this is what it really needs to do barring other operations that would be nice to haves but not crucial to the operation of what we, me, the general population of the world and possibly universe consider to be a phone.
1. Receive calls.
2. Place calls.
That is all, if it can't do that reliably then why am I bothering. Again, my phone isn't just for easy communique but for easy communique for people I truly care about and with the amount of phone calls I receive it's really starting to irk me that I am missing their phone calls. To be blunt; i'm really sick of this shit AT&T. The only reason I found out my phone wasn't working was because my sister literally walked over to my place and said; "wtf is wrong with your phone?" DIALED my number right infront of me and it went straight to voicemail.
I've never had this problem with my Blackberry 8800 or Sony Ericsson k610i. I've never called customer service EVER except for this year. I've had many phones and not never ever called customer service for a problem except this entire year. I've been on different continents for extended periods with ZERO issues; until the iPhone.
I wish I knew someone at AT&T but I don't, so if you come across this and have an iPhone and are experiencing some of the same problems please add on. If you can help to remedy any of this please contact me.
Barring all of that, and in the path of Paul Gogarty. With all due respect and in the most unparlimentary language; "FUCK YOU AT&T, FUCK YOU".. I apologize now for my use of unparlimentary language. It is most unparlimentary language and now, now I withdraw it and apologize for it. But I am outraged at AT&T's network and their stance on the issue. I don't like what has to be done but I'm going to take the responsibility and take it on the chin and say it because it's the only thing we can do to get AT&T to fix its network.
AT&T, please fix your network. PLEASE
